Forced exit node offline causes complete internet outage

When ExitNodeID policy is set to force an exit node and that node goes offline, all client devices lose internet connectivity until the exit node returns. Similarly, if ExitNodeID is set to 'auto:any' and all exit nodes go offline, internet access is lost.

Monitor exit node availability before enforcing ExitNodeID policy. Set up monitoring for exit node health status. Consider implementing redundant exit nodes. If internet connectivity is lost, check exit node status via admin console Machines page or Tailscale API, and either bring the exit node back online or temporarily remove the ExitNodeID policy to restore connectivity.
